Icelanders were bored of the unattractive forms running along their landscape; in itself, this is a miracle of nature. A team of architects named Choi+Shine transformed ordinary electricity pylons into sculptures. The scheme was named ‘The Land of Giants.’
‘Implementing just small changes to a tower design of steel frame which is fixed firmly, we have formed a sequence of towers which are strong, serious and changeable.’ This is written on the architects’ website.
‘Viewing the pylon-forms will turn into a memorable experience, raising the towers to an element which is more than simply an operational design which is essential.’
In 2010, this scheme’s creativity was awarded a BSA Unbuilt Architecture Award.
