People can be spotted to have hemorrhoids through a physical inspection of the anus. This can be confirmed if the doctor does another analysis to examine the region around the anus for unusual developments. This is referred to as a digital rectal exam. The digital rectal exam involves the insertion of the doctor’s finger into the person’s rectum. The doctor’s finger is often gloved and lubricated for the purposes of hygiene and ease of operation respectively. In the event that the doctor notices an irregularity in the person’s anus, a further test called Sigmoidoscopy may be ordered.
Sigmoidoscopy is the use of a miniature camera by the doctor to detect hemorrhoids that develop inside the body. This is done with the help of a Sigmoidoscope, a miniature fiber-optic camera which is inserted into a miniature tube and is placed in the rectum of the person. With this analysis, the doctor sees the inside the person’s rectum clearly and they can subsequently conduct a close examination on the hemorrhoid.
